Sylvester Enzio Stallone (born July 6, 1946) is an American actor, screenwriter, and filmmaker.
Here’s an example of a Stallone meal plan around the time of “Rambo 4,” “Rocky Balboa,” and the first “Expendables” movie:
- Pre-breakfast: A glass of liquid aminos
- Breakfast: 3 egg whites, half yoke, Irish oatmeal, toasted pumpernickel bread, fresh papaya, few figs
- Lunch: Roasted summer squash, broiled skinless chicken, salad, figs or berries
- Dinner: Salad, broiled fish, high-fibre toasted bread; veal on occasion
The Sylvester Stallone Rocky II workout utilized two-time Mr. Olympia Franco Columbu as his trainer. Sly knew that Columbu had helped train Arnold Schwarzenegger. Stallone would go on to use Columbu as his trainer throughout the Rambo and Rocky movies. Franco Columbu says:
I HAD TO CHARGE SLY A GOOD AMOUNT FOR THE TRAINING BECAUSE HE WANTED TO TRAIN FULL OUT, JUST AS IF HE WERE PREPARING FOR THE MR. OLYMPIA CONTEST. THAT MEANT TWO WORKOUTS A DAY, SIX DAYS A WEEK. I HAD TO DROP ALMOST EVERYTHING ELSE IN ORDER TO CONCENTRATE ON GETTING HIM IN THE BEST SHAPE OF HIS LIFE.
Columbu describes the workout routine:
I WORKED OUT A PROGRAM THAT WAS RIGHT FOR HIM AND THEN I LED THE WAY, CONSTANTLY INCREASING WEIGHTS AND REPS. I KNEW FOR SURE THAT THIS WOULD MOTIVATE HIM TO TRY AND KEEP UP WITH ME. IF I TOOK A WEIGHT AND DID 12 REPS, SLY WOULD HAVE TO TRY AND DO AT LEAST SEVEN. AFTER ALL, I MAY BE STRONGER THAN HE IS, BUT NOT THAT MUCH STRONGER. THEN, NEXT SET, I WOULD DO 15 REPS, SO HE WOULD HAVE TO INCREASE HIS REPS TO AT LEAST 10. BY THE END OF OUR TRAINING, HE WAS DOING CURLS WITH 70- POUND DUMBBELLS!
Man, back in those days I would do literally anything and everything to burn more fat,” recalls Sly.
“I wanted to get as lean as possible. I would go for long morning cardio which usually consisted of jogging or swimming, then do about 18 rounds of sparring in the ring for Rocky, then I’d hit the gym for about two hours.
And this is all while I was writing, directing and starring in a movie. Yeah, I didn’t sleep too much!”
Stallone used to smoke cigarettes but he decided to quit when he found out that he was short of breath constantly on the set of Rocky when it was time to go to work. Since then it seems that he’s been primarily a cigar man.
